I had given up hope searching…I was grieving. I called my friend Micah Hauck owner of North Coast Cabinets. He was busy working when he got my message about Lucy. He left work and searched the forest and ravine in the area surrounding my house. This effort on his part was unsolicited. He is a fellow animal lover and has birds as well. By some miracle when he was getting ready to leave he heard a faint sound that did not sound like other wild birds. He ran higher up the ravine and she flew right across his path and high into a very tall tree. He sat watch till we got there with her mate Ricky and a fat bowl of food. She was uninterested in a reunion it seemed. She sat in the tree looking at us and prerning herself. The sun was going down and I was starting to panic. The chances of finding her again in such a heavily wooded area so far away seemed impossible. Suddenly she flew down lower and I started to believe she might come back to us. She finally was 6 ft away…staring at me. She seemed very timid and unsure for a very long time. She eas so close. Then suddenly she made her decision and flew right to me and climbed up my arm to my shoulder. I gave her kisses and carefully put her in the carrier. She seemed happy to see her cage at home and had her face in the food bowl immediately. I owe so much to Micah who saved her…and believed because of his experience and love for birds that she might still be out there waiting for me to bring her home.
